Hi All,

I hope all is well with you. I just wrapped up my 1+ years in NYC at Fordham University and am actually making a large decision to head back to Ohio. I will be heading back to The Ohio State University as a Hall Director for the Houck, Barrett, and Halloran housing complex. I will be with the Mount Scholars, Engineering, BioSci, and Women in Engineering Scholars, which is 1. hilarious (I only took Bio 101 and Nutrition at OSU and slipped through some GECs to take some sort of Geology/Weather Systems classes) 2. exciting. I am making my move across the country next Saturday, so my life is in a bit of upheaval for the moment. Of course, nothing excites me more. I hope all is well with each and every one of you. I miss all of you and if you are in Columbus, maybe we can hang. Maybe.

ITSS,

Mags

Feeling Fresh

Stater family,

I wanted to share the good news - you’ll probably see me soon on television promoting the GE french-door refrigerator. After working on the product for a couple years, I was lucky enough to be cast for a reality-style road trip with a celebrity chef (Ben Sargent of Hook, Line & Dinner) which will be highlighted in a national tv spot and online "webisodes".
The commercial will hit the air this Thursday June 14 and is scheduled to run for about 3 months. It will primarily be on major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX) and specialty channels targeting the appliance demographic (Food, cooking, style). I'll let you know if I get specific times or stations!

For now, you can see a preview from the local Fox news coverage here: http://www.wdrb.com/story/18741030/tv-ad-features-appliance-park-engineer
The GE contest page announcing the campaign is live on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/#!/geappliances/app_243932939045868 (Sign up to win gift cards or the sweet refrigerator)
www.freshpedition.com will start uploading videos from our road trip on Thursday June 14, and the full adventure will be posted by the end of the month

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to wear any buckeye gear, and they’ve edited out my quotes “someday I won’t be so drunk” and “swagger like a dagger”, but we did get a good O-H-I-O picture…

ITS(still miss you)S,
Justin

PS: Unfortunately this hard work and tv star business has prevented a couple chances to catch up with you all. On the bright side, South 40 weekend is rolling up real soon – June 29 and 30. If you’re interested and we haven’t been chatting – shoot me a note!

Holiday get together?

Hi long lost friends,

Sadly this blog has just about died. If it weren't for Conroy it would be R.I.P. Yes, I'm calling everyone out.

Anyway. Who's in Columbus around New Years? I plan on being there December 29-January 1. I would LOVE to see all of you (or whoever is around). Can we work on a reunion?

ITS(you know you miss this)S,
Whipkey

Tom leaving OSU and an update from Megan

Hey all,
Here is a belated message from Alexa Odom (current president) that I caught wind of when I ran into her in the union yesterday.

I wanted to inform you, if you haven't already heard, that our dear Tom McGinnis is leaving Ohio State at the end of this quarter. Thankfully, unlike Joe Paterno and Jim Tressel, it's under good terms. He received a job offer from the University of Minnesota to serve as their Chief Financial Office for their department of Athletics and also will work very closely with the men's and women's hockey teams.Seeing as he wants to eventually become an athletic director, he said this is a great move for him in his career and Ohio State wasn't going to be offering him this type of opportunity anytime soon. Unfortunately this means he'll be leaving Staters at the end of the quarter. However, his last official luncheon will be next week, November 17th, and as a gift we're compiling letters to give to him in a scrapbook. I wanted to extend the invitation to all of you to submit a letter to me and we can include it in our scrapbook for him. You by no means have to, but I thought you may be interested.

If you want to writ e aletter, could you please email me by Sunday? I know you're all busy but the sooner we can get them the better because Exec is trying to compile things on Sunday. BUT if you need more time then if you could have them to me at the latest by Wednesday (11/16) that would work too. But of course, you can always email him yourself if you want!

And since I'm on here anyway, here's my life-update:
I'm in the throws of my third year of medical school- which started in July. This is when we see patients all the time, and it's essentially me paying Ohio State to let me have a full-time job. So far I have done one month of trauma surgery, one month of transplant surgery, a month of pediatric endocrinology (diabetes), a month of pediatric hematology/oncology (cancer and blood disorders), and I am now in Internal Medicine, or general adult medicine. I have done two weeks of infectious diseases and now I am in the Ross on cardiology. Next month I go to Riverside for general medicine. This winter I do neurology, psychiatry, two months of ob/gyn (delivering babies!), a month of outpatient family medicine and then a month hopefully in the Emergency Room. I have until August to decide what kind of doctor I want to be, as next Sept I have to apply for residency. So, in about a year and half I will be Dr. Conroy and will head off to a 3-5 year residency depending on what I go into. Right now I'm thinking that I will either be an emergency room doctor, a pediatrician, or an adult internist. Or, I could find ways to combine two of the three in various different ways.

Overall, third year is unequivocally the most stress I have ever had. Working as much as 85 or 90 hours a week sometimes, plus studying and trying to maintain some semblance of sanity and a life is pretty hard. To add to it, I am the president of the student government for our six professional schools, IPC. I distinctly remember making fun of IPC in undergrad for being the only organization to manage to do less than USG, but alas now I am among them. I've really enjoyed getting to see a completely different world in Ohio STate and get to be in the early end of conversations that I felt like we heard about long down the road in terms of University policy and changes at large. It's a good networking opportunity, and I'm learning a lot about politics with all of it-- useful skills if I stay in a University medical center for my career. I describe my life as mostly in shambles most of the time; and while staters and pre-med in undergrad did prepare me to be busy, this is just another level for me.

Other updates, last year I took up marathon-running and ran the full marathons in both Columbus and Cleveland. I became pretty addicted and was in amazing shape, but 80 hour weeks in surgery this summer put a very quick halt to my training and I don't have any races on my calendar this year. I do plan on running the columbus marathon in 2012, assuming I can continue to ward off major injury among the many miles of training.

No major life-milestones for me otherwise. I'm still in the same house in victorian village that I have been in since after college graduation. But, I'm finally getting an itch to leave Columbus. Maybe I'll head to the east coast again or chicago or new york for residency. Still trying to figure out where I want to go next.

I don't have much time off of work these days, and have to work most weekends, but if you're in Columbus visiting let me know!

Ahhh, stranger danger!!!

April 16th was the last post to this blog and it was a request, not an update. Pathetic people, pathetic.

Can we get back on this? I need to know what's going on with all of you. Some of you I have not heard from in WAY TOO LONG. And we aren't all as good as James Knight at keeping in touch.

Before I give a brief update, quick question. Who will be around for Homecoming? I've decided to mosey back to Columbus for the festivities and I would love to see you!

Update on me... Well, I'm still in Boston. I imagine I'll be here for about one more year. So if anyone wants to visit the most historical city in our nation, please come by. You know you have a place to stay. And lucky you, I pay a small fortune to live pretty close in the city so come and take advantage of that.

I'm working at Harvard School of Public Health planning fundraising events. I get to hang out with millionaires and billionaires on the regular. I had an event with the owner of the Celtics on Friday. Glamorous? Maybe. But let me tell you what though... it is BORING. Harvard follows a formula and something as simple as suggesting music, even if it's classical, is something that really really has to be thought over and will probably be rejected. It's all fancy dinners and/or talks by professors. So I'm learning a lot, meeting cool people, and getting a taste of a world I never would otherwise... but it's not for me for too long. I'm itching for a little more R&D in my life. ;)

I'm still with Zak, for those of you who have met him. He's rockin' it out at Berklee. Most importantly, we're going to three Hanson concerts next weekend and I'm really hoping we can figure out a way to use his musician connections to hang out with Hanson sometime in the course of those shows.

And lastly, I went to Africa last summer and hung out with Trevor. Remember Trevor, my old roommate? He's in Namibia for Peace Corps and I went to do some volunteer work with him and travel. My work let me take an unpaid leave since I was doing public health volunteering, which is what my work raises money for. It was absolutely incredible. So different being there from all the pictures you see and stories you hear. I'm sure LaGay can fill us in more on that! ;) But some highlights include petting cheetahs and lion cubs, getting charged by a rhino, being taught dances by some teenagers, climbing up/rolling down the world's tallest sand dune, and hitchhiking everywhere.

I truly miss you all and I really hope you will follow along and keep this blog alive!

ITS(I miss this too)S,
Katie

I'm Leaving!

Hello everybody! It has been quite some time since I have seen most of you.

I am leaving for Kenya on June 6th, and we are going to be having a going away party this Friday (June 3rd). If anybody is going to be in the Columbus area, please stop by! The address is 400 E. Maynard Ave. We should have some food and might project a movie on the back porch (perhaps the Lion King or Out of Africa). If you need directions, give me a call at 937-554-5395.

I miss you guys! Have a great summer!
